What's New at Bellamare and Virgin Gorda
All the villas at Mahoe Bay (the secluded cove where Bellamare resides) have been built and the tennis courts are completed and in full swing. In addition, the Mahoe Bay Villas have recently installed a generator near the office to assure uninterrupted electrical power to all the villas.
The availability of good food continues to proliferate: Buck's Grocery has expanded and new restaurants have opened in the form of the Restaurant at Leverick and the Rock Café. Recent visits to Chez Bamboo confirm that great food and good music are still on the menu. Most excitingly, arrangements can now be made for the excellent Flying Iguana's own Chef Puck to prepare meals for you and your guests in the kitchen of Bellamare!
At Bellamare, we now have internet access, added an icemaker on the verandah bar, upgraded the stereo, and added a CD/DVD player and loads of new movies to the popular Bellamare library.
After much planning and patient waiting, the gardens are now in constant bloom (see photo above). Rosemary and oregano grow in the kitchen garden for your use and the banana and lime trees are producing fresh fruit for our guests.
Insider's Guide: WaterSports
For a quiet, untrammeled island, there is a surprising amount of recreation available on Virgin Gorda, including hiking, boating, tennis, and parasailing. Since we are big Watersports fans, we thought we'd give you a few of our favorites over the years.
Snorkeling: Just step out the door and head down the path to quiet, calm Mahoe Bay to see colorful parrotfish, graceful turtles and beautiful squids swimming just a few yards from shore.-anyone can learn to enjoy snorkeling including our 5 year old nephew, Patrick!
Diving: We enjoy wreck diving the Rhone and especially the Chikuzen, but the most enjoyable sites are the spectacular coral gardens around Ginger Island and for sea life of all sorts, the Dogs.
Chartering: Capt. Dave of the Double D is our choice for chartering. Dave has an excellent knowledge of the islands, its history, and the people. For a truly great experience, take a trip with Capt. Dave to Anegada; everyone we have recommended it to (and there are many) enthusiastically agrees, just read the guest book in Bellamare.
